UPSC CDS I 2026: Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern
Written Exam Pattern
| Paper | IMA / INA / AFA | OTA | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | 100 marks | 100 marks | 2 hours |
| General Knowledge | 100 marks | 100 marks | 2 hours |
| Elementary Mathematics | 100 marks | No paper | 2 hours |
| Written Total | 300 marks | 200 marks |
All papers had objective questions. A wrong answer cost one-third of the marks for that question. A blank answer had no penalty.
SSB Interview and Final Merit
- Candidates who cleared the written exam went to the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.
- Stage I included the Officer Intelligence Rating tests and the Picture Perception and Description Test. Only those who cleared Stage I continued to Stage II.
- Stage II included the interview, group tasks, psychology tests and conference. The SSB stage had a maximum of 300 marks for IMA, INA and AFA, and 200 marks for OTA.
- UPSC used the written and SSB marks to prepare the merit list. Medical results did not count towards merit. Admission still depends on medical fitness, eligibility checks and available seats.
