- Candidates need at least 1 year of relevant post-qualification work experience, or 1 year of post-qualification apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, in the Refining/Petroleum/Power/Lube/Petrochemical/Fertilizer industry (Engineering industry also allowed for Mechanical & Electrical posts).
- The diploma must be from a full-time regular course. Part-time, correspondence, or distance learning diplomas are not eligible. Sandwich and lateral-entry diplomas are allowed.
- Candidates holding AMIE, B.E., B.Tech. or similar professional degrees are not eligible. Any other degree obtained after the diploma is not treated as a higher qualification.

Non-Management Posts Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern
Selection is done in three stages: Computer Based Test (CBT), Skill/Proficiency Test (SPT) and Pre-Employment Medical Examination.
Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Mode: Online, Objective Multiple-Choice Questions
- Total Questions/Marks: 100 Questions, 100 Marks (1 mark each)
- Duration: 120 minutes
- Medium: English only
- Negative Marking: No negative marking for wrong answers
- Call letters are sent by email around 10 days before the CBT date. Qualifying the CBT alone does not guarantee a call for the SPT — it depends on vacancies, reservation, and relative performance.

Stage 2: Skill/Proficiency Test (SPT)
- Only qualifying in nature — SPT marks are not added to the final merit list.
- Conducted at the respective refinery location (Mumbai or Kochi) for candidates who clear the CBT cut-off.
- Tests practical skill and job proficiency in the trade; final selection is also subject to document verification.
Stage 3: Pre-Employment Medical Examination
- Mandatory for final appointment, as per BPCL’s medical fitness standards.
- Candidature stays provisional until medical fitness is confirmed; candidature is cancelled if the medical standard is not met.
Important Points
- Candidates can indicate a preferred test city, but this is only indicative — BPCL may allot any test centre.
- SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD/EWS candidates applying against unreserved posts are assessed on general standards, with no age, marks, or cut-off relaxation.
- Government/PSU/autonomous body employees must submit a No Objection Certificate at the SPT stage and a proper relieving letter at the time of joining; conditional relieving letters are not accepted.
- Selected candidates must join within 30 days of the offer.
