Eligibility Details
- Class 10th / Matriculation pass plus an ITI certificate (NCVT/SCVT) in trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, or Refrigeration & AC Mechanic, OR a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in these trades.
- OR Class 10th pass plus a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering (or a combination of these streams) from a recognised institute.
- A Degree (BE / B.Tech) in the above engineering streams is also accepted in place of the diploma.

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot: Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern
Selection for ALP posts is done through the following stages, in order:
1. First Stage CBT (CBT-1)
- Duration: 60 minutes, 75 questions, 75 marks (1 mark per question)
- Negative marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for every wrong answer
- Subjects: Mathematics, Mental Ability and General Science
- CBT-1 is only a screening test for CBT-2 and its marks are not counted in the final merit
2. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)
- Total duration: 2 hours 30 minutes, 175 questions
- Part-A: 100 questions in 90 minutes (Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering)
- Part-B: 75 questions in 60 minutes, a qualifying trade-based paper (35% qualifying marks needed)
- Negative marking of 1/3rd mark applies in Part-A and Part-B
3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Candidates equal to 8 times the vacancies (community-wise) are shortlisted based on Part-A marks of CBT-2
- A minimum T-score of 42 is required in each test battery, with no negative marking
4. Document Verification (DV) & Medical Examination (ME)
- Final merit is prepared RRB-wise using Part-A marks of CBT-2 and CBAT score in 50:50 ratio
- Shortlisted candidates undergo document verification followed by a medical fitness test as per A-1 medical standard
