PCS (Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services) Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern
The selection for UPPSC PCS 2026 is done in three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview (Viva-Voce).
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

- Negative marking: 0.33 (one-third) marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
Stage 2: Main Examination (Written/Conventional Type)
The Main Exam has eight compulsory papers, each of 3 hours duration:
- General Hindi: 150 Marks
- Essay: 150 Marks
- General Studies (Paper I to VI): 200 Marks each
Stage 3: Interview (Viva-Voce)
- Total Marks: 100
- Checks general awareness, intelligence, character, and suitability for the service.
Final Merit
The final merit list is prepared using marks from the Main Examination and Interview only. Candidates need a minimum of 35% marks (SC/ST) or 40% marks (other categories) to be considered for the merit list.
