Eligibility Details

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any stream or its equivalent from a recognized Board/University/Institute
  • The qualification must be complete as on the closing date of online submission (14/08/2026)
  • Candidates awaiting the final result of their qualifying exam are not eligible and should not apply
  • If the degree/certificate is issued after the closing date, the candidate must submit the consolidated marks sheet along with the date of declaration of the final qualifying exam result

Section Controller Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern

Selection for Section Controller is done in four stages:

  • Stage 1: Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Stage 2: Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
  • Stage 3: Document Verification (DV)
  • Stage 4: Medical Examination

  • Question Type: Objective Type, Multiple Choice
  • Negative Marking: Yes, 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer
  • Normalization will be done for CBTs held in multiple shifts
  • Medium: English, Hindi, and 13 Regional Indian Languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu)

Stage 2: CBAT Details

  • Shortlisting Ratio: 8 times the number of vacancies (community-wise)
  • Question Language: English and Hindi only
  • Negative Marking: No
  • Qualifying Marks: Minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery (mandatory for all, no relaxation)
  • Candidates must produce the original Vision Certificate (Annexure VI/VIA) during CBAT; failure results in debarment from CBAT
  • The merit list is drawn only from candidates who qualify in CBAT
  • Weightage for Final Merit: 70% from CBT + 30% from CBAT

Stage 3: Document Verification (DV)

  • Candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for DV, based on combined merit (70% CBT + 30% CBAT)
  • Candidates must produce all original certificates along with two sets of self-attested photocopies
  • Tie-Breaking Rule 1: The older candidate is placed higher
  • Tie-Breaking Rule 2: If age is also the same, candidates are ranked in alphabetical order of their given name (not surname)

Stage 4: Medical Examination

  • Conducted by Railway Medical Authorities as per Medical Standard A-2
  • Failure in the medical examination leads to cancellation of candidature, with no alternate appointment given
