JILCCE 2026 Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern

The examination is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) or OMR mode. If held in multiple shifts, normalization of marks will be applied. Selection is done in two stages:

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (PT)

The PT is generally conducted only if the number of applicants exceeds 50,000. It consists of one paper (General Knowledge) of 2 hours’ duration, with 120 Multiple Choice Questions (+3 marks for correct, -1 mark for incorrect answer).

Stage 2: Main Examination

Candidates who qualify the PT (at a ratio of 15 times the vacancies) move to the Main Examination, which has three papers, each of 2 hours’ duration.

Paper 1: Language Knowledge (Qualifying Only)

120 Questions (60 Hindi, 60 English). Qualifying in nature; minimum 30% marks required, and marks are not added to the final merit list.

Paper 2: Regional/Tribal Language

100 Questions. Candidates must choose one language (e.g., Hindi, English, Urdu, Santhali, etc.). Minimum 30% marks required.

Final Merit List

The merit list is prepared based on the normalized total marks of Paper 2 and Paper 3 only, provided the candidate has passed Paper 1. Minimum qualifying marks for final selection range from 32% to 40% depending on the category.
