Eligibility Details

  • Educational Qualification: Graduation degree (or equivalent) in any stream from a recognised university. Final-year students may apply but must complete their degree before training starts (01/04/2027).
  • NCC Requirement: Minimum two/three years’ service in the NCC Senior Division/Wing, with at least a ‘B’ Grade in the NCC ‘C’ Certificate exam. Provisional ‘C’ Certificate holders must produce the final certificate before the SSB.
  • For Wards Of Battle Casualties: NCC ‘C’ Certificate is not mandatory.
  • Marital Status: Unmarried male candidates only.

Physical Standard Test (PST) Details

  • Minimum Height: 157.5 cm (5 feet 2 inches) for all candidates.

Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern

Selection under the NCC Special Entry Scheme is not through a written exam. It follows a shortlisting and interview-based process, as given below.

Selection Stages

  • Online Application
  • Shortlisting (based on bonus marks, academic performance and NCC achievements) – First week of September 2026
  • SSB Interview (maximum 5 days; includes psychological tests, GTO tasks and personal interview) – November/December 2026
  • Medical Examination
  • Merit List
  • Joining Letter for training

SSB & Selection Notes

  • Candidates get a choice of SSB centre and dates, open for 14 days in September 2026.
  • Only one SSB is allowed per candidate, either through this entry or through CDS — a declaration is required.
  • Final selection is based on merit from the SSB and medical results.

Training & Commissioning

  • Training Duration: 49 weeks at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, starting April 2027.
  • Successful candidates receive a Post Graduate Diploma from Madras University.
  • Commissioned Rank: Lieutenant, in any of the Arms/Services of the Indian Army.
  • Service Liability: Short Service Commission with the option of release after 5/10/14 years, or Permanent Commission after 10 years.
  • Candidates must not marry during the training period; bond and other service conditions apply.
  • Submission of false information will lead to disqualification or termination.
