Stenographer Grade-III / Grade-II Selection Procedure & Exam Pattern

The examination has three groups: Group A (English Shorthand) or Group B (Hindi Shorthand), depending on the post applied for, and Group C (Computer Test), which is compulsory for everyone. Candidates must clear the applicable Shorthand group as well as Group C.

How the Stenography Test Is Conducted

• A trial passage of 200-250 words is dictated first at the same speed, but it is not transcribed or marked.
• After a 2-3 minute gap, the final passage is dictated at a uniform speed, marked at every 80-100 words.
• Candidates get 5 minutes of reading time after dictation, and transcription must be done on a computer.

How the Speed & Efficiency Test Is Conducted

• The test is taken in the same language as the candidate’s Shorthand Test.
• Font used: “Kruti Dev 010” for Hindi and “Calibri” for English.
• Minimum typing speed required: 8000 key depressions per hour on computer.
• The Efficiency Test covers word-processing skills, including formatting of text, paragraphs, pages, tables and letters.

Evaluation Method

• Full mistakes include omission or substitution of a word/figure, and misspelling; two partial mistakes count as one full mistake.
• Partial mistakes include punctuation errors, wrong use of capital/small letters, and wrong paragraph indentation.
• A margin of 5% mistakes is allowed; anything beyond that is deducted from the total word count before calculating speed and marks.

Interview

The interview carries no marks and is held only to confirm that the candidate can read back their own shorthand notes. Candidates are called for interview in the same number as the vacancies, strictly by merit.

Merit List & Final Selection

• Merit is decided first by total marks in the Shorthand Test plus Computer Test (Speed + Efficiency).
• If marks are tied, the candidate with higher marks in the Shorthand Test is ranked above.
• If still tied, the older candidate is given preference, as per Rule 22 of the Rajasthan District Courts Ministerial Establishment Rules, 1986.
